Getting things done can be challenging. There's a multitude of factors at play beyond our control. Getting things done in line with what a leader envisions doesn't always work out how they imagined. Getting things done on time, on budget, in scope, in desired quality, or getting things done faster or better than competition, are common dilemmas faced by many organizations. To overcome these challenges, organizations need to execute effectively.

To Execute Effectively, we must be very clear on what we’re trying to achieve and what the root cause of any issues are, so we can best work through any hindrances and design an intentional way forward. We intend to execute effectively by shrinking the gap between the future end state and the current state in a clear and logical manner.

Some starter options from traditional planning frameworks can help leaders outline a path to successful execution for their organization:

● S-M-A-R-T Goal. S-M-A-R-T: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely

● S-A-R Statement. S-A-R: Situation - Action - Result

● S-M-E-A-C Ops Order: S-M-E-A-C: Situation, Mission, Execution, Administration, Command/Communication.

When leaders have clearly established their intended outcomes, understand their resources and constraints, and have enabled a set of efficient and actionable processes, they are better positioned to execute effectively.

This simplified system will provide a solid foundation for effective execution. The rest of the success story involves the organizational culture, trust, resilience, and of course the Direction, Alignment, and Development of others that are getting things done.
