Some of the best leaders understand and appreciate the value of continuous learning and growth for themselves and others. They apply a lens of Curiosity to their worlds so they are more open to options, rather than a fixed rigid set of notions.
When leaders ask questions they open their mind and the minds of those they engage with. They gain better awareness to strategically view situations and potential solutions, and are better positioned to mitigate or avoid risks. They are able to foster more inclusive contributions and collaboration of their teams.
This curiosity supports innovation, flexibility, and perspective taking. People are more inclined to take ownership and create solutions, be forward thinking, and generate impactful outcomes when there is room for possibility in their work, especially when that work matters to people, rather than checking boxes and arbitrarily following some bosses orders.
Certainly situation dictates and there are times to be very direct and specific and regulated for very good reasons. In many cases however, there are a wide variety of factors and approaches to consider, in which curiosity, purpose, and coaching others through scenarios can provide for an environment where people feel committed to achieving something valuable.
